Biography

Deen is a dynamic, multi-hyphenate artist and modern renaissance man whose creative journey spans from high-profile Hollywood acting credits to independent filmmaking, music, and broadcasting.

• A Foundation in Performance: Born in Cape Town during the apartheid era, Deen’s creative journey began at just 5 years old when he won his first singing competition—a spark that ignited a lifelong passion for the arts.
• Early Broadcasting & Musical Roots: As a teenager, he skipped classes to self-study music, co-hosted a weekend Top 40 radio show while still in high school, and wrote his first song as a love poem for his high school sweetheart.
• From Radio to Theatre: Following high school, he channeled his energy into presenting high quality shows for multiple radio stations before moving into formal theatre training. He later honed his live performance and vocal skills singing at a premier theatrical diner.
• Hollywood Debut: Deen made a major breakthrough into mainstream cinema in his very first acting role, starring in Lord of War alongside Nicolas Cage, Jared Leto, and Ethan Hawke. Since then he's had other roles in television and film incl. Mad Dogs TV Series, African Race, Swung, The Runaway to name a few. He has volunteered on Film and Theatre Productions including The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
• Independent Filmmaker & Vocalist: A true multi-hyphenate, he has self-funded, written, and directed his own film, co-written and starred in another cinematic project; both for the 48Hour Film Project. He has worked behind the scenes in various departments within film production; Production, Locations, Camera, Transport, Unit and VFX departments. He has always found the time to commit to music and sang Lead vocals for The George Werner Jazz Project.
• The Ultimate Renaissance Man: Highly creative both on and off camera, Deen possesses a remarkably diverse skillset outside of entertainment. He is a profound woodworker and decorator, an A+ certified computer technician, a software coder proficient in Java and JavaScript, and a professional hairdresser.
• Creative Philosophy: Grounded by a dedicated meditation practice, Deen balances his extensive work in front of the lens with strategic roles behind the camera. He is continually driven by a pure passion for artistic innovation.
• Current Projects: Now based in beautiful Scotland, Deen recently appeared on the hit drama series River City, released two independent music singles, and currently hosts his weekly independent broadcast show, You’re Riding Shotgun.
